Here We Sit is the title track from the first independent studio album release from Noel O'Reilly. A cry for help for the planet we live on. There is no doubt that we are having an effect on our planet’s behaviour. We were told that this was going to happen. But are we doing anything about it? Not enough in my opinion. I hope you enjoy the music. More importantly, I wish governments around the world would take this issue more seriously.
lyrics
It’s been 50 years since they told us about,
Increasing temperatures, flooding and drought.
Not everyone listened and caused us to doubt,
The powers in charge did nothing about
The prediction that SRI told us would happen,
Like melting of ice caps and sea levels rising.
The burning of fossil fuels, human consumption.
The Kyoto Protocol argued against - the science replaced with wilful ignorance
Business dictated it’s too much to spend,
Reducing their profit was more their concern,
How much has it cost us, but still we don’t learn?
Resistance is useless unless we tend
To the cry from our planet, Mad weather events,
Mother Nature is at her wits end.
Political papers are easy to write,
But these are no good unless all wills unite. Tipping points already clearly in sight.
Our factories belch out their spurious poison,
Fills the atmosphere to the horizon,
Average temperatures constantly rising,
Wildfires and floods are now not surprising.
Melting glaciers, Bleached coral reef,
Drilling the seabed, Factory ships,
Plastic pollution that’s eaten by fish,
Human consumption is killing our seas. Sometimes I think that we are the disease.
And still we continue to chop down the trees,
Burn fossil fuels and empty the seas.
So, you pay your invoice for your energy,
While the wind and the sun and the rivers run free.
And still there are those who sit on the fence,
Argue the science, Ignore evidence.
Filling their pockets with dollars and cents
Today it’s the poor who bears natures offence. Soon all your money will be no defence.
So here we sit with the sun on our face,
Leaving our rubbish all over the place,
And we call ourselves the superior race,
The waste we create is a downright disgrace,
From the bottom of the sea to the darkness of space,
Let’s find another planet, Just in case…
